Prince William?s Engagement Ring Repicas on Sale


Last November 2010, British Prince William gave fiancée Kate Middleton the blue sapphire engagement ring surrounded with diamonds, which had belonged to William’s mother, the late Princess Diana. And now many copies of the ring are sold at various shops on, Chinese largest online mall with at least about three dollars each. It turns out that dozens of factories located in the eastern Chinese city of Yiwu in Zhejiang province, home to wholesale market for a wide range of small items from pencils to socks and cups, have been rapidly producing the ring repicas to meet burgeoning global demands. Producers make minor changes to these fake rings by reducing the number of diamonds surrounding the sapphire because they are aware of violating a copyright lawsuit.

One jewelry manufacturer said that he saw a good market for his fake rings when the British royal engagement was announced

Besides China, the cheap imitation rings have also sold at many shops in Brazil

The couple plans to officially tie the knot on April 29, 2011 at London’s Westminster Abbey
