Cruise Vacations – Some Important Tips For First Timers

Going on a cruise is both exciting and something that not everybody get to do in their lifetime. While cruises used to be ultra expensive, its popularity has driven prices down significantly. With that being said, many people go on a cruise as a one-time experience. The idea of sailing into the open sea and really leaving “the world” behind can be one of the most relaxing holidays you will ever have. Leaving everything behind and sailing into some of the world’s most spectacular oceans is truly an unforgettable experience.

Because cruises are so expensive you need to make sure that you get as much bang for your buck as possible. There are so many factors that affect the price of a cruise and taking all of it into account is really important. The price of a cruise can range from $ 30 per person per day to as much as $ 5000 per person per day. It all depends on the ship, the route and how long you will be on board. Luxury cruises usually come with a lot of extras that are included in the price while budget cruises will require that you pay for many of the on-board activities.

A cruise ship itself is basically a giant floating hotel – some are more like small “towns” with virtually anything you can think of. Swimming pools, arcades, shopping malls, playgrounds and even cinemas and theaters. The accommodation, like in most hotels, range in prices. Bigger rooms with balconies and larger windows are usually more expensive.

Most cruises include 2 to 3 meals per day in the price, but some budget cruises don’t. Its definitely something worth considering as it can cost quite a lot on a 2 week cruise if you have to pay for your meals. You can carry on food and soft drinks, but most cruises ban you from taking alcohol on board.

Activities on the boat are usually free and included in the price. If you are cruising with your family then its important that you take a closer look at activities for kids. Some cruises like the Disney cruises cater specifically for kids and have some amazing entertainment available throughout the day – much to the delight of parents who can finally kick back and relax while the kids have fun elsewhere on the ship.

One of the biggest expenses you will have while on your cruise will probably be when you dock for day trips. This depends on your cruise and where you will be stopping but once you are off the boat you will have to pay for your own expenses. This is entirely up to you but some ports are expensive and take advantage of tourists.
