{flickr|100|campaign} Located just fifteen minutes from downtown Atlanta is one of Georgia’s most popular attractions. Stone Mountain Park offers excitement and attractions that any visitor to the state can enjoy.

Because of the attraction’s size, there are a number of different ways to reach it. Visit the web page or a travel office within the city to find the best route based on where you are staying.

Once you reach the grounds, you may find it difficult to decide what to do, amidst all of the adventures and action to be found there. The site is originally the home of the largest piece of exposed granite.

It also spans an area of over 3,200 acres of forest and fun. One of the most popular activities there is the Sky Hike.

This is a massive family adventure course that is a quarter of a mile long and offers a plethora of different hikes and courses. Some of these include suspended wooden bridges, vertical net bridges, and rope climbs.

It offers enough thrills for adult visitors but is still safe and appropriate for younger children and adolescents. The course is something that the entire family can do and enjoy together.

Obstacle course goers have the option of a twelve-foot beginners’ course, a twenty-four foot high trail for those that are feeling slightly more courageous, and a four story high super challenge trail for those looking for a real challenge. If you do wish to participate, you must be wearing close toed shoes.

It will protect you from any accidental slips or tumbling. The attraction is included in a one day pass, but you can also purchase single tickets.

A more relaxing option of entertainment at the park is the Scenic Railroad. It is a full sized and authentic locomotive from the 1940’s that takes riders on a five mile trip around the mountain.

The open air cars make it easy for you to feel close to the beautiful nature and scenery outside. Visit the Memorial Depot to find information about the departure times and tickets.

Another blissful way to view the beauty of the park is the Summit Skyride. This is a Swiss cable car ride to the top of the mountain, where you can also see the Appalachians and the Atlanta skyline.

Stone Mountain is home to the world’s longest running laser show. They renovated the terrace from which the laser show is produced in 2010.

The terraced grassy seating makes it easy for spectators to see the beautiful sight in comfort. Laser lights are choreographed to music and are a beautiful sight against the backdrop of the mountain.

History buffs will enjoy a jaunt to the Antebellum Plantation and Farmyard. It is a collection of restored historical buildings from all around the state of Georgia.

Most were built between the late seventeen to eighteen hundreds and were all moved directly from their original sites. Each home contains period furniture and decorations.

If you spend time around the cookhouse, you will get to experience some culinary traditions of the south. There is also a farmyard where children can meet all of the different types of animals, including goats and sheep, in the petting zoo.

They can also receive instruction from animal trainers about their behaviors, and watch the goats and sheep perform in an obstacle course. It is a great way for you and your family to learn about the history of Georgian lifestyle and what it may have been like there during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

The fall season brings a great deal of celebration to Stone Mountain. The climate during this time of year is mild and comfortable, and is the perfect time to take part in all different types of autumn-inspired activities.

The Pumpkin Festival lasts from the first of October until Halloween. During this time, the park hosts costume parties and contests, a pumpkin patch complete with a decorating station, trick or treat scavenger hunts, storytelling, pie eating contests, and parades.

This is a great time to bring children to the park; there is a great deal of attractions specifically focused to offer Halloween fun for youngsters and give them the opportunity to truly enjoy and celebrate the season.

Any trip to Atlanta or Georgia will not be complete without visiting Stone Mountain Park. It is a venue that is especially enjoyable for families, and it offers multiple days’ worth of fun.
